Well, yes - it’s been awhile since we’ve updated our weblog. Things have been pretty crazy over here in TRS HQ, but considering how many great Red Sox blogs there are out there, (use The Google, but be sure to start with Soxaholix) you probably don’t mind if we post infrequently, right? Consider this our virtual bulletin board for all things Red Sox and/or Red Seat.

On to something much more important - Truck Day. Sweet, sweet Truck Day. A rite of spring! The symbolic beginning to the new season! It’s a big truck. It gets loaded with stuff and drives away. That’s pretty much it.

Were you unable to make it over to the park to witness this momentous occasion?? We’re here to help. Below is our re-enactment of Monday’s events. A dramatization of sorts. (Be sure to stick around for the Deleted Scenes after the credits roll…)

When big events happen at Fenway, The Red Seat is usually there representin’ and this “Christmas at Fenway” was no different - except for the fact that our shirts were being sold inside Fenway Park for the first time. Yep, you read that right - INSIDE! The “B is for Baseball” t-shirt with all proceeds benefiting the Red Sox Foundation made its debut. ‘Tis true!

We were there to talk up the shirt in a scheduled TV interview which consumed most of the morning. After dozens of calls, loads of waiting and even more walking, the interview took all of two minutes and we just missed having a celebrity pitchman, but more on that later. What we did have was access to Fenway and that, my friends, is a strange thing.

After 45 minutes waiting in the lobby at 4 Yawkey Way, The Red Seat was finally on the move and we went everywhere. Most of the time we were being shuttled through the bowels of the building and we would apparate, Harry Potter style, to the EMC club! Then Gate D! And then outside of Larry Lucchino’s office…it was like MAGIC! This is where the hug of the day took place - Larry (we call him Larry) came out of his office and was presented with the shirt and told that all proceeds were going to the Foundation. Then the spirit overtook him and he laid a hug on me. It was just for yucks but he did seem genuinely pleased.

Just after “The Hug”, I found out that the biggest handshake of the day (literally) was about to happen, but we would have to act fast. At a steady jog/run through the halls I made it just in time to have my hand disappear into his. Curt Schilling is a big, big dude — two of me at least. It was great fun and I was flabbergasted to hear him say a few kind words about the shirt and us. He was to be our “Celebrity Pitch Man”, but Mr. Schilling was on a tight schedule and was off to another engagement. Before he parted, he stated to no one in particular, “SIGN CLEMENS!” Better add that to the list, Santa.

We then shook hands with Terry Francona and chatted up reporter Dan Roche who might say a few nice things about the shirt on his show. After this whirlwind, it was now getting late. One more hug or handshake and I’d have gone into a Sox induced coma. It was a pretty amazing day. Big thanks to Curt for supporting the Red Sox Foundation - you da man.

We’ve had about a week to reflect on the splendor that was The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. As some of you may know, we here at The Red Seat helped out the Red Sox Foundation with the invitation and program design for said soiree and in return, we got to go! They graciously provided us with our own table, so we, in turn, provided the riff raff. Observe:

What a night! If there was any question as to where the event was to take place, all you had to do was drive towards southie and follow the Bat Signal. After walking the red carpet and checking in, it was up to the balcony to hobnob with the Sox glitterati. Former Sox players and current front office guys were everywhere. While the dinner was fun, the action was just outside the hall where Remy looked nervous, Tom Caron moved fast and El Tiante held court. This is what our view looked like from our Red Seat table.

Although taking a bathroom break at the same time as Luis Tiant was a close second, I’m pretty sure this was the highlight of the night for The Bro:

The Duffy’s Cliff site we’ve been tinkering (and often…not tinkering with) became as real as reality this week and for this we are grateful. Launching a new site is always nerve-racking with big questions looming like: WILL THIS BE POPULAR? Or was this a BIG DUMB IDEA? So far, Duffy’s Cliff has amassed new terms and phrases at a steady pace - in a word, PHEW.

Since the launch is as good or better than expected it has come to my realization that I now need to add terms before someone beats me to them. This thinking is ridiculous because anybody can add anything at any time but being the first to add “Window Boys” gives one a true satisfaction that only comes from making such a significant contribution to the mighty Soxicon.

The Red Seat mobilized itself and went into the belly of the beast for some post-season action: a trip to Shea Stadium to see a team called the “Metropolitans” square off against a team named the “Red Birds”. Interesting tidbit - the pitchers hit (not really) in this game and strategery ensued with the crazy double switches. HOW DO THEY DO THAT?!?!

The trip to Shea was, as always, eventful with Mets fans urinating between subway cars (how playful!), cracking Cory Lidle jokes (enchanting!) and barfing Basketball Diaries style on the ramps leading the stadium (intoxicating!). Once inside the stadium everything was how baseball in October should be - Mets fans get it right. And did you know they have their own song? They also have a “kiss cam” and an HD jumbotron that makes the players from the other team look like they escaped from prison. Did we tell you about the gunfire? Instead of bullets, the nice people at Pepsi shoot t-shirts out of bazookas at the poor defenseless people in the stands. If you survive the concussion blast you get a free shirt! The game was good, too except for the ending, of course.

In our random bin - the cast of characters in the seats surrounding us included: Crazy Sign Lady, Crazy Camera Lady and Crazy Late-Middle Aged Flair Couple. Crazy Camera Lady may be the best example. Here’s a sample conversation: “See these pictures I just took of Jose Reyes?? Wanna know why they’re so blurry? HE SO FAST!” Crazy Sign Lady brings 20 or so signs to the game and got us on TV with her “Cha-Ching” sign. Gracias, Crazy Sign Lady! There was also a celebrity among us! The rotund guy from The Sopranos who’s not Tony was there. You know - the “I love you Johnny Cakes” guy.

And let’s leave with this nugget from a vocal Mets fan directed at Jim Edmonds after he hit a single: “Hey, Edmonds!…Hey! Edmonds!…HEY!! EDMONDS!!…(pregnant pause of many seconds)…YOU SUCK!!! So you see, Red Sox fans, we have much in common with our friends in New York. Good luck October baseball, we love ya!
